RIDE AND STRIDE - NOTE FROM ALAN SHAND Due to a leg injury, I am unable to cycle my usual annual 75mile /31 churches, however I still plan to undertake a 30 mile walk, visiting the following 17 churches : St Martins, P&E, St Mary's, All Saints, St Agnes, Moulton, Dalham, Denham, Barrow, Higham, Kentford, Kennet, Herringswell, Red Lodge, Freckenham, Chippenham, Snailwell, returning to Exning. All most welcome to contribute/donate/support my endeavours, sponsor form at back of church or email me with any personal pledges, gratefully received. Thanks very much Alan Shand

MBC SINGING FOR FUN: The next session on September 16 includes “Songs of the Sixties & Last Night of the Proms”

We will have a “Tour of the UK”. The songs are all 1960s hits by British Artists. The tour will be based on the birthplace of an artist or group leader, or on the place where a group was formed.

This has resulted in a mix of rock, pop and skiffle recorded by The Animals, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits, Hollies, Kinks, Marmalade, Mindbenders, Moody Blues, Troggs, Peter & Gordon, Cliff Richard, Georgie Fame, Joe Cocker, Lonnie Donegan, Mary Hopkin, and Peter Sarstedt.

We’ll precede that with a song by the late Dolly Parton and end with 4 traditional songs from the “Last Night of the Proms”

This is an evening where the emphasis is very much on “Fun” as well as “Singing”. Flags may be waved during the “Proms ending” (bring your own or use one we provide).

HARVEST FESTIVAL AT ST PHILIP AND & ST ETHELDREDA SUNDAY 27TH.SEPT. It will be much appreciated if, in lieu of fresh fruit and veg, gifts of non-perishable food items could be donated for our Harvest Thanksgiving. RIDE AND STRIDE It’s that time of year again, and we’re looking forward to opening our church for the annual Ride and Stride for Historic Churches. Taking place on Saturday 12th September. If you’d like to take part and be sponsored, you could cycle, walk, or drive a route around churches you’ve always wanted to visit but rarely find open. You could even bring a picnic. BENEFICE GATHERING   Please have in your diaries 18th September at 7.30 p.m. for an evening in Exning church hall with cheese and wine (and non-alcoholic alternative). CHANGE OF DATE OF CONCERT The Newmarket Community Choir concert will now be St Martins on Saturday 3^rd October at 7.30pm. They will be singing the usual eclectic programme. Tickets £5, under 12s free. A cake stall and hot drinks will be available. Any profits will go to Newmarket Nexus. Sally Pascall

 

TIME FOR TEA AND FRIENDSHIP Come along and join our friendly group for tea and cake. At our last meeting, we welcomed Emily, a singer-songwriter, who entertained us.

ST MARTIN’S CHURCH DECLUTTER 12^th September 1.30 onwards. On the afternoon of the 12^th September, while St Martin’s church is open for Ride and Stride, we would like to start to declutter both vestries. As building works are expected to begin in the future and many cupboards will need to be moved for some works to proceed, this is a good opportunity to tidy and declutter before winter. NEWMARKET FOODBANK Kerri Davies from the Newmarket Foodbank has issued a plea for help. The foodbank is very low on everything. Recent donations have been very low; however, demand remains the same. Though Kerri says they are in need of everything, their urgent needs are for pasta, soup, cereal, and tin tomatoes. They are happy to pick-up any donations if required, and they would also be grateful for any financial donations you care to make. THE NEWMARKET COMMUNITY PANTRY, based at The Racing Centre, provides affordable food and essential items to those in need, offering long-term support through a partnership-based approach. For a one-off £5 membership fee, members can do a weekly shop for just £3. We aim to help individuals not just with food but by connecting them to the right resources for lasting stability.
